This ever popular supplement has been on the market since the dawn of supplements. This form of protein is one of two types of proteins that come from milk, with the other being casein protein. It is actually a byproduct from the making of cheese. When a cow's milk is being turned into cheese, whey protein is the by product and is a high natural source of protein. 

No foods actually contain whey protein itself but many other types of proteins. Whey protein is a rich source of branched chain amino acids (BCAA's) and is a high concentration than other natural sources of protein such as egg protein. This is why whey protein is so popular and effective at building muscle and burning fat.

Whey protein concentrate is merely one of several types of whey protein. It has the highest amount of lactose and natural fat, but generally much cheaper than the other two. For this reason it is a "tried and true" supplement that is always in demand.

Burns fat. Since this supplement increases your metabolism, it will increase the rate at which you burn fat all day long.

Leaner protein. Although it isn't quite as lean as the other whey proteins it has less fat than most proteins from food.

Easy to take. Most products mix easily and can be carried around in the form of shakes or protein bars.


Cons:

Quality. Although it is a great product for the price, it isn't nearly as effective as some of the other whey proteins available.

Content. Has higher lactose and fat levels than other whey products.

GI disturbances. This product can cause gastro intestinal side effects such as extra gas in some individuals especially those who are lactose intolerant.

Slower Utilization. You body will take in and utilize this protein faster than food protein sources but still not as fast as other whey products.
