We’ve all heard to reasons and excuses to skip exercise for the day and “plan” to do it tomorrow. Many would even go as far as to say why even worry with fitness at all. To this crowd of people I would heavily encourage them to read on to learn why fitness can improve your quality of life. For the rest of us, I will hopefully divulge some helpful and inspiring information to keep your fitness dream alive.
Constant exercise routine is never thought of as an easy task, yet many of us will face this challenge head on. Why would one go through all the trouble to see benefits weeks, maybe even months from now? All too often people plan for the present and not the future. We live in a world where speed thrives and the slow fail. Unfortunately many cannot see that fitness does not work in this way and success is measured slowly over time—not instantaneously. I will further discuss why one should take the time to improve their fitness rather than give up.
Many common misperceptions of exercise buffs fall under the category of “self centered” or such phrases as “full of themselves” come to describe these individuals. These remarks come from individuals who simply do not understand why one would go through so much trouble to brag. Somewhere there is a miscommunication on the principles that back the motivation of these hard working people and why they pursue a never ending goal.
Much of this negativity has come from a very important underlying theme coming from the very people who spread these harmful rumors. Often we find these people are often those who actually admire the fitness minded person from afar and are actually intimidated by them. They yearn to be like them and often are upset that they cannot conjure up the self discipline to work out every day, diet, and a wide variety of other committed habits necessary for health and fitness.
If you find that you are one of these frustrated people who “look down” on others because you cannot achieve what others have—it is not too late. It is never too late to say that your fitness dreams will never come alive. Begin your transformation today and make your long lost vision a reality. Become a person of self discipline and have the utmost respect for both your body and mind. Only then will you be able to realize what you have been criticizing all along. I implore you to free your mind from this negative pattern of thought and embrace and fresh start for yourself. Feel free to begin this transformation today by reading more into self motivation and discipline in the Motivation Guide.
Fitness fans are actually the very opposite of what one might call very shallow or vain. These people have high self respect and are not breaking a sweat day in and day out just to brag. Do they thrive on the fact that they look good in the mirror? Yes, but this is one of the few satisfactions one can visually perceive from exercise so it is only natural that we as human beings will base our exercise improvements on looks.
The knowledgeable health minded individual however, will realize the other important benefits of exercise. Some of the most commonly overlooked reasons to workout that are overlooked include: Cardiovascular health, reduces risk of many related health conditions, increased energy, reduced stress, improved self-esteem, improved self-discipline and improved self confidence. As you can see, the visual aspect of fitness is only one of many benefits of exercise.
As stated above, exercise engaged individuals will see a surge in their energy levels. This will lead to an increased productivity at work, school, or other daily tasks. You overall quality of life will be improved with this boost in mood and will lead to a more positive attitude. Many studies have shown that having an initial positive outlook can lead to high success rates in undertaking new tasks.
All too often I hear people making remarks about how “cocky” a guy is because he carries himself with an extra strut in his walk. To a certain extent this is true, but the term cocky carries a negative connotation to it. Self-confident is a far better way to describe individuals who routinely improve their looks through fitness. These people will gain a higher self-esteem and try things they never have before. They will be more interactive and verbal than they used to be. They may change their entire wardrobe to match their new body they have sculpted with training.
This to some may come off as becoming arrogant and self indulgent. My theory on this is that the person standing in front of them is not the same person there a year ago. This new person has changed his or her life for the better and to the friend or acquaintance not used to this personality shift may take it the wrong way. Perhaps they are feeling left behind in terms of fitness levels or maybe they just feel they have lost a friend.
It is important to note that this person changed their life for the better. Maybe they were once overweight or very skinny, was socially awkward, or self-conscious about their looks. Why should you criticize them from changing this? Would you want to have any of these personality traits? I am simply stating that we should be happy for these individuals and admire all that they have achieved. Perhaps there is much we can learn from them to apply in our own daily lives.
As a side note I will point out that there is a fine line between arrogance and self-confidence. One will become the very person they grew up hating in high school and the other will simply realize their true potential for change. These individuals know who you are and if you are reading this, try to become self-confident, not “self-arrogant”.
It is these self indulged people who give a bad name to all hard working fitness dreamers who aspire to self improve. Dreamers grow to flaunt our self improvement with themselves, constantly challenging themselves with new tasks to promote change. The opposing side would only use fitness as a means to flaunt themselves to others, not themselves.
So I will end this discussion of exercise benefits with a few important questions that you can ask yourself as both self reflection and a take away message. Do you think you truly realize why fitness can improve your quality of life? Do you want to begin your fitness transformation if you haven’t done so now, already seeing all the promising benefits to improve your lifestyle? If already engaged in exercise, do you view yourself as self-confident or self-arrogant? If you feel your path is headed in the positive direction than you are already past the hard part. If not it is not too late to have a whole new outlook on fitness and the way you carry yourself every day. That in itself is just one more step to self improvement which can lead to fitness success.
